I’d just like to add one of the causes to the food list that I feel is very important and overlooked. I (and my daughters) suffered chronic heartburn for many, many years. I tried EVERYTHING. One night I started researching a different line and I realised I was suffering problems from gluten ingestion, probably predominantly wheat!!! Now I thought I didn’t eat that much of it aside from bread….boy was I wrong. Wheat is in everything. Pretty much a cheap (and nasty) filler. Particularly these days with their modifications of it. Speaking of mustard…..I’ve also found that a spoon of mustard also helps instantly cure the hiccups. Just be sure not to inhale as you take the bite of mustard. LOL

Sorry y’all….forgot to add that I’ve also noticed when I wake up with heartburn at night that simply getting up and walking/moving (such as getting up and going potty) for just a couple of minutes has also helped me. I know these things may not work for everybody….just trying to offer up ideas that have helped me personally. We’re all different. Hope this helps a few of you. HUGS

When I was pregnant, my very first symptom was usually heartburn that lasted the entire nine months. Eating celery helped it every time.

I’ve only had acid reflux a few times. It’s nasty. When I get it where t comes back up and leaves that nasty taste, Usually if I can suck on a mint – sometimes Altoids will get rid of it. Tums might also help to neutralize it. For the lady who wasn’t having any success- see a Dr. This sounds like something serious you don’t want to mess with. Sometimes it’s necessary to get medical help.

Interestingly, when I used to get severe GERD, I couldn’t drink milk to help because it held the acid at the back of my throat (rather like catarrh) and when I cleared my throat, the acid burned again! In the end, mine was soothed by drinking iced water and holding it at the back of my throat before I swallowed. More often than not, it took around two hours for it to completely clear.
